The family winery on Bob Wire Road has filed state paperwork that could put a still behind the tasting bar

5 Soul Wine Co., the wine-and-pickleball spot on Bob Wire Road that shares its ten acres with Frontyard Brewing, has filed with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for a distiller's permit. That's the license that lets a place make its own spirits and pour them on-site. Nothing's been announced beyond the filing, so don't go looking for a cocktail list yet — but it's the kind of paperwork that tends to show up a few months before something changes.

The news. A distiller's permit application went in on September 11. It's the state license required before a business can legally produce and serve its own spirits, as opposed to just buying and pouring someone else's. 5 Soul Wine Co. prides itself on sourcing products from a variety of regions and believes wine is for everyone, with a product that's premium but never pretentious. So far that philosophy has applied to wine, not whiskey or gin — but a filed permit means the idea is further along than a rumor.

The place. Set on 10 scenic acres in the Texas Hill Country, 5 Soul Wine Co brings together wine, pickleball, and family fun, inspired by the vibrant "beer garden" vibe with a signature 5 Soul twist. Six state-of-the-art pickleball courts let you rally with friends before celebrating with a glass of wine, and the grounds are shared with Frontyard Brewing next door, so a visit can cover wine, beer, and a game of pickleball in one stop. There are also a kids' playground, fire pits, and more than 5 acres to explore — this is a stay-a-while property, not a quick tasting-room pop-in.

What's pouring. The current lineup leans California. The winery's 2022 collection comes from the Monterey AVA wine list includes a 2022 Pinot Grigio, 2022 Sauvignon Blanc, 2022 Chardonnay, a 2022 Rosé, 2022 Pinot Noir, 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, and a 2021 Blanc de Blanc sparkling. On the lighter side, frosé is part of the regular pour, alongside wine by the glass or bottle. Nothing distilled yet — that's the whole point of the filing.

Good to know. This is a permit, not a plan. No timeline has been shared for when (or if) spirits actually start pouring, so treat any "coming soon" chatter with a grain of salt until 5 Soul says otherwise. In the meantime, the tasting room keeps its regular hours, and food trucks still rotate through for anyone who needs something to eat with their glass.
