A Steiner Ranch kitchen built so nobody has to choose between a cocktail and a toddler

There's a particular kind of relief that sets in the first time you realize you can order a real drink and still keep an eye on your kid without leaving your seat. That's the whole premise at Farmand's — a full bar up front, a playground out back, and a menu that treats both halves of the table like they matter. Nearly a year into its run on N FM 620, it's become the default answer for Steiner Ranch families who want more than a kids'-menu truce on a weeknight.

The story. Farmand's is named for founder and seasoned restaurateur Tony Farmand, who has built more than 40 fast casual restaurants. The restaurant is a collaboration with expert restaurant developer Carlos Griego and Culinary Institute of America-trained Executive Chef Matthew Price, who brings over 20 years of fine dining experience. It opened August 30, with a patio and outdoor playground included at the new location in Bldg. C on N FM 620.

What changed in the time since isn't the concept so much as the comfort level — the kind of groove a restaurant settles into once regulars start showing up without checking the hours first. A Steiner Ranch regular writing in a recent review noted it's been about a year since the restaurant first opened, and the chef is constantly adding new touches to the menu. The current PDF menu backs that up, flagging several dishes — the Burrata & Blistered Tomatoes, the Carne Asada Fries, the Santorini Bowl, the Pimento Cheeseburger, the Ginger Noodle Bowl, the Texas Redfish plate — as new additions since opening.

The vibe. This isn't a restaurant pretending to be kid-friendly with a coloring placemat and a hope. It's built around a custom deck, big screens, and a full bar so parents can unwind while the kids take over the playground. One local family-dining roundup put it plainly: it's a newer Steiner Ranch spot clearly designed with families in mind, where the patio and playground make it easy for kids to stay entertained while parents settle in for elevated comfort food that goes beyond the typical kid-dinner lineup.

Go on a weekday around 3 to catch happy hour with a lighter crowd, or lean into the weekend rush on purpose — Saturday and Sunday brunch is clearly the draw, and the patio fills in fast once families start rolling in after morning soccer.

What to order. The menu leans into what the kitchen calls elevated comfort food — global flavors stacked onto burgers, wraps, and bowls, with a dedicated dessert and sundae list for the kids' side of the table. Standouts worth flagging:

A full bar, outdoor patio, and playground are all part of the setup, and the website is upfront that only service animals are allowed on-site, so leave the family dog at home. Happy hour runs Monday through Friday with discounts on shareables, cocktails, wine, and beer. Catering is also available for family get-togethers, watch parties, and office lunches.
