Crab cake Benedict, cast-iron huevos rancheros and more than 300 whiskeys behind the bar
Homespun Kitchen & Bar is the farm-to-table spot at 131 E Mercer St. in Dripping Springs, and on Sundays from 10 to 3 it's one of the best brunch tables in town. It also happens to keep more than 300 whiskeys behind the bar, in case brunch turns into something longer.

Why it's this week's craving. Mercer Street on a Sunday morning is a good place to be — walk the old downtown, then settle in for eggs. Homespun's brunch menu covers both kinds of brunch people: the ones who want a proper Benedict, and the ones who want chicken-fried steak and eggs and no conversation about it. It's kid-friendly and pet-friendly, with indoor seating and a patio.
The story. Homespun bills itself as farm-to-table American cooking with European influences, serving lunch and dinner all week and brunch on Sundays. The menu leans seasonal and sourced close to home, with house-made soups and chili, hand-breaded chicken-fried everything, and a dessert menu that runs from key lime pie to peanut butter cake. The whiskey list is the other headline — 300-plus bottles is a serious shelf for a small-town Main Street.
What to order.
- Crab Cake Benedict ($21) — crab cakes with poached eggs, spinach and hollandaise. The splurge.
- Mercer Street Benedict ($16) — the house version: English muffin with Canadian bacon, eggs and queso.
- Huevos Ranchero Breakfast Skillet ($15) — potatoes, ranchero sauce, two eggs and your choice of meat in a skillet.
- Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs ($18) — two eggs, potatoes and toast alongside.
- Southwestern-Style Chicken Tenders & Waffles ($14) — panko-breaded tenders on a buttermilk waffle, if you want the sweet-and-savory route.
Starting the table with the deviled eggs ($10 for five, with pickled jalapeño and bacon) or a skillet of mac and cheese ($12) is never a mistake. Kids 8 and under get their own brunch menu with a pancake breakfast.
If brunch sells you on the place, come back for dinner: the shrimp and grits ($28) with nine jumbo Gulf shrimp over cheddar grits, or the fried catfish Pontchartrain ($28) over rice with crawfish étouffée, are the ones we'd point you to.
Good to know. Brunch runs Sundays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the kitchen stays open until 9 that night. Happy hour is 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 to 9 p.m. on weekends. Groups of eight or more should call ahead — they do private parties, too.
