🆕 Sangam Chettinad Indian Cuisine & Bar (Leander / Cedar Park line) — MAJOR UPDATE: the doors are open. After a two-month slip, the South Indian kitchen started serving Sept. 22 on Ronald Reagan Boulevard — its third Austin-area location after Parmer Lane and Round Rock. Lunch runs 11:30 to 2:30 on weekdays (to 3 on weekends), and dinner starts at 5:30 every night.

⭐ FEATURED SPOT
Dahlia Cafe (Liberty Hill)
Debi and John Johnston walked away from real-estate appraisal in 2007 to open Dahlia Cafe in a 1930s farmhouse on Ranch Road 1869, and it has been a family operation ever since — the meatloaf and buttermilk pie recipes go back generations. They call it dressed-up country cooking: hand-breaded chicken fried steak, shrimp and grits, green chile pimento cheese, and prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights. With the first cool evenings finally here, the oak-shaded patio and the playground are at their best. Pro tip: open Monday–Thursday 11 to 8, Friday 11 to 9, Saturday 8 to 9, and Sunday 8 to 4 — the doors open early on weekends, and whatever you order, save room for a slice of the bourbon pecan pie.

Think shelves of games, a bar, and packaged snacks rather than a kitchen. The founders say the project is fully funded, and construction is on file with the state through mid-December.

😋 THIS WEEK'S CRAVING — DATE NIGHT
Our weekly pick: a local favorite worth the drive.
🍽️ Mouton's Bistro & Bar (Cedar Park) — Chef Ben Mouton grew up between Austin and New Orleans, and his Lakeline bistro has been the area's Cajun date spot since he first opened in Leander in 2012. Happy hour runs every day from 2 to 6 with half-off cocktails, and you can book a table on their site. Open Sunday–Tuesday 8 to 9:30, Wednesday 8 to 10, and Thursday–Saturday 8 to 10:30.
