Retro dining room, full bar, and a Habanero Pork Belly Benny that keeps showing up on best-brunch lists

If you've asked around for brunch recommendations lately, this is the name that keeps coming back. Snooze, an A.M. Eatery sits on East Whitestone Boulevard in a bright, retro-colored dining room built for the kind of morning where you're in no hurry to leave. It's a Denver-born chain, but the Cedar Park location has carved out its own following since opening.

Why it's this week's craving. We put out the call for favorite brunch spots this week and readers didn't type in a single pick — so we went with the one that keeps topping local "best brunch" roundups anyway. Modern breakfast restaurant Snooze, an A.M. Eatery officially opened in Cedar Park on April 17, with a menu that includes pancakes, Benedicts, omelets, tacos and sandwiches as well as mimosas, cocktails and coffee. Weekend lines are a known hazard here, which tells you most of what you need to know.

The story. Snooze originated in Denver and now has locations across the country, with five throughout the Austin area; the Cedar Park location has a 4,000-square-foot dining area and an outdoor patio. The menu changes seasonally rather than sitting still, so regulars tend to find a new reason to come back every few months.

The vibe. Expect a colorful, upbeat room with a full bar going even at breakfast — this is a place that treats a weekend mimosa order as a given, not an afterthought. It's loud in a good way, more "catching up with friends over coffee refills" than quiet diner booth.

What to order. The Protein Trio Omelet is a house signature — three cage-free eggs filled with bacon, Polidori sausage, ham and cheddar cheese, served with hash browns and your choice of toast. The Habanero Pork Belly Benny layers braised habanero pork belly on an English muffin with bacon-espresso jam, poached cage-free eggs, house-made cream cheese hollandaise and candied cranberry. If you'd rather go sweet, the pancake flight lets you sample a few at once, and the Habanero Pork Belly Breakfast Fried Rice — jasmine-garlic fried rice with sautéed red bell peppers, onions, poblanos, carrots and pineapple, topped with braised pork belly and two sunny-side-up eggs, with sriracha maple aioli and kimchi spice for heat — is the one to get if you want your breakfast to fight back a little.

Good to know. Snooze isn't a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, but it does keep a separate gluten-free menu and is reported to offer gluten-free pancakes, french toast, bread and buns, and home fries. Ask your server about allergies either way. Weekday mornings move faster than weekends, so if you're avoiding a wait, aim for an early weekday slot.
