The sweet-cream Moon Milk that built a cult following has a drive-thru now at The Collective

Leander didn't have a Summer Moon of its own until last year, and now the Collective Way location is the kind of spot regulars build their whole morning around. It's locally owned, it roasts its own beans the old-fashioned way, and this week it's our pick for the coffee-shop craving — no reader nominations came in, so we're going with the one that keeps turning up on every local "best of" list.
Why it's this week's craving. Nobody wrote in with a coffee pick this week, which left the floor open. Summer Moon Leander kept surfacing anyway — drive-thru lines at 6 a.m., a patio full of dogs and laptops, and a sweet-cream add-in that has its own following. That's craving-worthy on its own merits.
The story. Summer Moon got its start in Austin and has grown into about 25 locations across Texas, with recent expansion into markets like Kansas City and Oklahoma City. The Leander store is run by local franchise owners — it's the sixth Summer Moon shop for owner Jenna Findlay and her husband, Randy, who bought their first shop in Austin in 2015. The location was first announced for a spot off US 183 back in early 2024, then landed in The Collective plaza and opened on July 19, 2025, with a grand opening the same day. What sets Summer Moon apart from a standard drip-and-espresso counter is the roasting method: its coffee is roasted in handbuilt brick roasters over seasoned Texas oak, producing what the company calls Oak Roasted Coffee.
The vibe. This is a neighborhood pit stop built for routine, not lingering over a laptop all day — though you can. Summer Moon Leander sits in The Collective plaza, off Collective Way and Bell Blvd, just minutes from the HEB on Hero Way, which makes it an easy add-on to a grocery run. It's become a cozy favorite for Leander residents, families, students, remote workers and commuters, with free wi-fi, online order-ahead, a drive-thru and pet-friendly outdoor seating. If you've got a dog that behaves on a patio, this is your place.
What to order. The signature move is the Summer Moon Latte — shots of the shop's smooth Velvet Blaze Espresso topped with sweet and creamy Moon Milk®, built into their deliciously rich Signature Latte. If full-sweet isn't your speed, you can dial it back: the Half Moon, Quarter Moon and Whisper Moon lattes all cut the Moon Milk with nonfat milk in different ratios, so you can land wherever you like on the sweetness scale. Cold-brew drinkers should look at the Winter Moon Latte or a straight Nitro Cold Brew, and the Moon Milk itself is sold as its own 16oz pour for anyone who just wants the sweet cream solo. On the food side, Summer Moon offers a range of food and treats sourced from local vendors, including sandwiches, tacos and vegan pastries — the breakfast tacos are the move if you're making this your one morning stop.
Good to know. Hours run Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. There's a drive-thru if you're in a hurry, indoor seating and a pet-friendly patio if you're not, and order-ahead through the Summer Moon app if you want to skip the line entirely.
