Pastries and coffee at sunrise, gyros and spanakopita by lunch
Dripping Springs has barbecue, pizza, and tacos covered. What it didn't have, until this summer, was a proper Greek kitchen — the kind with a pastry case up front and a grill going in back. Ziggi's Cafe fills that gap on RR 12, and it's already settling into the neighborhood rotation.
The story. Ziggi's comes from Alex and Rena Gabrielides, who bought a home in Dripping Springs sight unseen and moved across the world to a town they'd never visited, Greek by heritage, having lived everywhere from London to the Bahamas and owned restaurants along the way. Alex's connection to the food business reaches back even further — he comes from three generations of butchers. Named for the family's dog, Ziggi's serves what the couple calls "Greek street food" — the quick, casual meal you'd grab from a little shop on any Greek island. Community Impact flagged it as a new opening in Dripping Springs this August, noting the Greek restaurant serves baked goods, drinks, pitas and pies at 28485 RR 12.
The vibe. It's a family operation through and through — the couple's teenage son Maximos works as head barista, and the cafe runs as a full-fledged coffee shop in the morning before the lunch and dinner crowd shows up. There's a patio out back, and reviewers mention a shaded, toddler-friendly playground, which tracks with the "family-friendly" billing. Meat arrives fresh and is prepared in-house, never frozen, and much of the menu is grilled — this isn't a steam-table operation.
What to order. Start with the Greek salad, which the family makes fresh each morning with cucumber, tomato, onion, feta, and olives — never lettuce, and which Alex and Rena themselves call the dish that best represents the place. From there, pitas stuffed with pork, chicken, or falafel; grilled souvlaki skewers; handmade savory pies wrapped in flaky phyllo; and Greek dips served with warm pita make up the core of the lunch and dinner menu. Don't skip the pastry case, either — it holds everything from croissants and muffins to decadent cakes and Greek specialties like bougatsa and ravani. The spinach pie (spanakopita) is handmade in-house, and the chicken gyro and fries combo gets regular praise from early visitors.
Good to know. The cafe opens for coffee, pastries, and light bites in the morning, then shifts into its full savory menu — gyros, souvlaki, salads, and pies — as the day goes on. It's closed Mondays. Expect a short wait on weekends; it's a small operation finding its footing with a growing following.
